NWA 1281 (Howardite) - 5.4g & 6.3g Partslice with Diogenite Melt
NWA 1281 was discovered in the Sahara Desert during 2001 as a
single partially crusted stone weighing just 468g. It is an
extremely fresh Achondrite, Howardite with a weathering level of W0
(unweathered). NWA
1281 displays large black melt clasts which consist of
re-crystallized orthopyroxene (Diogenite) material. This
contrasts strongly against the pale matrix material. There are
also many beautiful small bright green crystals located
throughout the matrix which are most likely hypersthene. These specimens
are part of the Meteorites Australia Collection.
