Unclassified Saharan - 37g
Individual with surface holes
While it is virtually impossible to find a meteorite with holes,
very occasionally one will show up. The 37g individual below has six sides, all of
which have some type of hole showing. Some are quite large
(several mm) while others are small but all seem prolific
throughout the specimen. These are most likely due to
terrestrial weathering of the surface over time where chondrules or
also other less resistant materials/inclusions have weathered
out. Once this
meteorite was sliced it was evident that the holes appear on the
surface only. This specimen is part of the Meteorites Australia
Collection.
