Northwest Africa 2704 (NWA 2704)
Northwest Africa 2704 (NWA 2704) was discovered in
the form of a single stone weighing 871g in the Sahara
Desert in Northwest Africa during 2005.
It was classified as an ordinary chondrite, L3.8 with a Shock
Rating of S2 and a Weathering Level of W2. This primitive
chondrite is full of closely-knit chondrules of varying size,
shape and colour and also appears to contain a few different
types of inclusions as visible in the photos below. Some parts
of the chondrule field seem to have very little matrix with some
of the chondrules actually having interlocking shapes. Thanks to
John Kashuba for providing some beautifully detailed Thin
Section images which are also presented below. This specimen
is part of the Meteorites Australia Collection (MA.05.0106).
